Hell
I ve been looking out stuff about eternity or heaven and hell while I ve been studying the OT and there is hardly anything substantial. As Daudi said Sheol does not count cause it seems to mean the ground that you are buried in (although there seems to be some kind of communication with other people in there like when David said he will see his dead baby again). Anyway the first time I came across something substantial was in Job when he and his "friends" are arguing about God. Job says something about seeing with new eyes and something about new body (i cant be bothered to get out of bed and have a look - its somewhere near the back im guessing chapter 33). Also another thing (not my point but this is what someone said to me when I asked them) is that people like Moses were so driven they they must have had some kind of goal (though I think experiencing God first hand would definately drive me).
So people before the prophets perhaps had some kind of theory but I have not found anything consistant.
When you get to the prophets ir all changes and they are full of predictions of final judgment and heaven (not much about hell though). So perhaps if these prophets had these prection there would be nothing stopping Nathan or Gad telling Solomon about these things.
Anyway anyones thoughts would be great, I love discussing these things. Maybe if I get boered ill put some references in or something

In Jewish tradition land was seen as a blessing from God - and I believe that they thought that disobeying God could mean losing that, and their family would be left with nothing (which was the ultimate shame). This could have been the motivation for a lot of OT jews perhaps - not heaven/hell as Christians are so fixed on!!!
Any thoughts??
Yeah I agree, its kind of like fear of God that is always talked about is a fear that God would take stuff away from them. However I think that the prophets and Job (kind of) try to battle against this and give the readers more of a view on a final judgment and the life after that.
I do think that some patriarchs had something extra already though - perhaps experiencing God's presence was enough motivation
