Hell

I ve been looking out stuff about eternity or heaven and hell while I ve been studying the OT and there is hardly anything substantial. As Daudi said Sheol does not count cause it seems to mean the ground that you are buried in (although there seems to be some kind of communication with other people in there like when David said he will see his dead baby again). Anyway the first time I came across something substantial was in Job when he and his "friends" are arguing about God. Job says something about seeing with new eyes and something about new body (i cant be bothered to get out of bed and have a look - its somewhere near the back im guessing chapter 33). Also another thing (not my point but this is what someone said to me when I asked them) is that people like Moses were so driven they they must have had some kind of goal (though I think experiencing God first hand would definately drive me).

So people before the prophets perhaps had some kind of theory but I have not found anything consistant.

When you get to the prophets ir all changes and they are full of predictions of final judgment and heaven (not much about hell though). So perhaps if these prophets had these prection there would be nothing stopping Nathan or Gad telling Solomon about these things.

Anyway anyones thoughts would be great, I love discussing these things. Maybe if I get boered ill put some references in or something

I had a lecture today and the lecturer put a question out there:

Could Solomon be in hell?

He was the greatest kng in Israel's history with the most riches, he extended the kingdom's boundaries, he built the temple and renewed the covenant for the whole nation. However at the end of his reign he worshipped other God's and never repented of it.

I was drving the other day and this woman cut me up badly but the most annoying part of it was that because i was in someone elses car i completely missed the horn. So after I figured out where it was too late to use. So this made me resent the woman not because she cut me up but that I could not vent my frustration. This could have been fatal and was definately a huge flaw in car design.

There needs to be either enough horns that you can never miss it or just a huge one in the middle of steering wheel so that you can smack it.
Also a huge horn that destroy the person (who cut you up)'s ears

Will there be any competition in heaven? This is a weird question and im not sure if it will ever be answered but I hope there is. Maybe only the good sports though, get rid of basketball apart from tippet) and American football (throwball). Any thoughts?

Thoughts on music history

So looking into some history on this subject I went to the bible. The first bit of poetry that is recorded is by Adam talking about Eve, which is before the fall (Gen 2:23). Whether this was a song or not I do not know but creative lyrics started off as pure/ sinless. The next entry of poetry is God’s curses (Gen 3:14-19) and it seems to be done in this way so that people can remember that bad things came into the world because of man’s sin.

The next piece is a prideful poem which revels in murderous deeds written by the first bigamist recorded – Lamech (Gen 4:23-24). Perhaps his evil inspired lyrics were accompanied by his son (or descendant) Jubal who seems to be the first player of musical instruments (Gen 4:21). This family is part of the Cainites, who have already been separated from the sons of God (Gen 6:2), which are the Sethites.

Jewish oral tradition has the Sethites on a mountain (still near the Garden of Eden) and Cainites down below. So the Cainites lure the Sethites down from God’s chosen place with Satan-inspired music and beautiful women. This is why the Holy Spirit stops dwelling in men (and also explains the strange paragraph of Gen 6:1-4).

So if this is true then music after the fall has been used for evil means in tempting people. It is mostly used in the Old Testament for memorization, as most people did not have means or knowledge to write records they would memorize them so this was a helpful technique.

It is still true that the music that we listen to sticks in our heads; we seem to find learning songs off-by-heart much easier than learning prose. It happens regularly that in the afternoon I have started humming or singing a song that I have been singing in worship that morning, in many instances this has helped me refocus my attention on God throughout the day. In the same way if I have been singing along to depressing songs then I continue singing these and it can affect my mood. This suggests that we need to be cautious of what we listen to because it will stick no matter if it is edifying or not.
